"Inguino" is Latin for "groin" or "crotch", the place where one element divides to become two. This is a term applied to trees as well as people. It also references the act of divergence from a particular point. In this particular case, this piece of Cuban mahogany was found thousands of miles from its point of origin. Through human intervention, this tree was spread from its native Caribbean habitat to the western Pacific islands, a kind of arboreal diaspora.
