“Nexus” is dervied from the Latin “nectere”, to be “bound together”. As “nexus”, it refers to the group of things connected. In tree morphology, this is known as “inosculation”, where two roots near each other grow large enough to touch and eventually fuse. This phenomena can occur between roots of the same tree, as in this case, or between roots of separate individuals. The diagonals of rough black are contrasted with the horizontal and vertical planes of smooth red. This is another collaborative work with Dr. Jing Xu of Nanchang Univeristy, China.
