“Sol” is Latin for “sun”. This references the circular nature of the rootball and the extraordinary yellow color of the wood. The circularity of the hole also contributes to the idea of sun but it expresses through the absence of the core, the "soul" of the tree . Yellowwood is native to the American Southeast. One of its rarest trees, they are often naturalized outside of their native range, this one extracted from a construction site at Cornell University.
