“Plexus” is Latin for “interwoven” as is seen in the unusual structure of the branches in this piece. This phenomenon is know as “inosculation”, where two branches near each other grow large enough to start rubbing against each other. At some stage, the cambiums merge and the intersection becomes a living, natural graft, creating an ironic sense of the “unnatural”.
