“Carya” was commissioned for an installation to help commemorate Cornell University’s sesquicentennial. This tree was the same age as the university and was alive when it fell in a windstorm. It was cut in half to expose the simultaneous interactions between growth and decay. Here, the pieces are in “lying in repose”, as an act of veneration, exposing the unseen and unfelt.
